Air evacuation is essential and strongly recommended for anyone using Lake Kariba — but on its own, it doesn’t work.
Most medical emergencies don’t happen at an airstrip. They occur on speedboats, houseboats, or at remote lodges, often far from suitable landing facilities. The aircraft used for evacuation cannot land on water and cannot operate at night, leaving a dangerous gap in medical response.
In fact, over 90% of PJM Rescue missions are requested late afternoon or at night, when air evacuation is not possible.
This is where PJM Rescue Boat Services become critical. Our rescue vessel operates day and night and is crewed by an experienced captain, doctor, and support crew. It is a fully equipped, registered Basic Life Support ambulance, able to treat patients on site, stabilise them for air transfer, or transport them directly to Kariba Private Clinic.
Early medical intervention saves lives — and this is the gap PJM Rescue covers.
When booking a houseboat, always ask if it is covered by PJM Rescue. Members’ guests and crew are automatically covered, or individual temporary cover can be arranged.
No one expects an emergency on Lake Kariba — but they do happen. PJM Rescue is here when no one else can respond.
