PJM Rescue: A Life-Saving Mission on Lake Kariba – Why Membership Matters
On the evening of 1 September 2025, PJM Rescue once again proved why its presence on Lake Kariba is indispensable.
At *2040 hrs, the PJM Rescue control room received an urgent call from a paid-up houseboat member reporting a suspected stroke and requesting immediate medical assistance. Within minutes, the rescue team—comprising a captain, doctor, and crew—was assembled and departed harbour at *2101 hrs.
Calm Waters, Swift Response
Navigating under calm weather conditions, the captain relied on radar and intimate knowledge of the lake to reach *Palm Bay, where the houseboat was moored. A tender boat was dispatched by the houseboat to mark the channel, and at **2218 hrs, PJM Rescue made visual contact. By *2235 hrs, the team was aboard the houseboat and the doctor was attending to the patient.
Fortunately, the condition was assessed as *non-life-threatening, and with the patient stable, the rescue team remained on board overnight, returning to harbour the next morning at *0826 hrs on 2 September.
