On 17 November 2025, a houseboat sank on Lake Kariba. Fortunately, the incident occurred close to the shoreline, allowing passengers and crew to reach land safely. No serious injuries have been reported, and everyone on board managed to get to safety.
At this stage, the exact cause of the sinking remains unknown, and further information will likely become available once investigations are completed.
This incident serves as an important reminder that serious emergencies can occur on both commercial and private vessels. Whether due to mechanical failure, weather changes, or structural issues, unexpected situations can arise at any time on the lake.
Why Membership with PJM Rescue Matters
While PJM Rescue may not have been able to prevent the vessel from sinking, our trained response team would have been able to:
- Attend immediately to any injuries at the scene
- Transport passengers safely back to harbour
- Assist in coordinating salvage operations and recovery teams
- Provide professional on-water emergency support
Having an emergency response team ready and waiting can make the difference between chaos and coordinated rescue.
