Visitors to Kariba often underestimate the extreme heat and fail to stay adequately hydrated during the day — leading to cases of sunstroke in the late afternoon or evening, as occurred in this recent incident.
Sunstroke is serious and debilitating, and once symptoms appear, medical treatment is required. PJM Rescue was called out and attended with a doctor to provide on-site treatment to the affected guest, who was on a commercial charter houseboat on Lake Kariba.
Kariba is a remote area with limited access and medical facilities, which makes rapid response crucial in any emergency. The PJM Rescue boat remains on standby 24/7 to assist with all types of emergencies on the lake.
